Fixing Sideways or Upside-Down Pages in a Scanned PDF
You scan a signed consent form, a handwritten lab notebook page, or an old paper document — and it opens sideways. This is one of the most common annoyances with scanned PDFs, and it has a one-click fix.
Why this happens
Scanners and phone cameras record the page exactly as it was fed in or photographed. If the original paper went into the scanner sideways, or you photographed a page in landscape instead of portrait, the PDF preserves that orientation — the content itself isn't damaged, but every page displays rotated until you tell the file otherwise.
What rotating actually changes
Rotating a PDF page updates the page's orientation metadata — the instruction that tells any PDF viewer which way is "up" — without altering, re-scanning, or re-compressing the actual page content. The text, images, and quality stay exactly as they were; only the display orientation changes.

💡 Mixed orientations
If only some pages in a multi-page scan are rotated the wrong way (common when scanning a mixed stack of portrait and landscape pages), rotating the whole document isn't the fix — you'd need to split out just the affected pages, rotate those separately, then merge the document back together.
