For Librarians & Educators

Everything you need to evaluate Scitero for inclusion in your library's digital resources list, course recommendations, or research skills programme.

Completely free

Every tool on Scitero is free to use without a subscription, institutional license fee, or per-seat cost. An account is optional β€” it lets users save their work, not unlock features. There is no tiered plan, no free trial, and no paywall.

πŸ”’

Privacy-first

Scitero does not sell user data or serve advertisements. Account creation is optional and collects only name, email, and role. Lab calculations and document uploads are processed in the user's browser and are not stored on Scitero servers. AI writing tools send text to Google Gemini's API for processing β€” this is disclosed on each tool page and in the Privacy Policy.

Accessibility

Scitero targets WCAG 2.1 Level AA. Current status includes:

  • Sufficient colour contrast on all text (β‰₯ 4.5:1)
  • Full keyboard navigation with visible focus indicators
  • Correct heading hierarchy (h1 β†’ h2 β†’ h3) for screen readers
  • ARIA roles on custom interactive components
  • Mobile-responsive layout

Accuracy & verification

All 10 lab calculators have been audited against primary references (ICH Q2(R1), USP, standard analytical chemistry texts). Each calculator displays a "Verify before use" notice and a link to report errors. AI tools are clearly labelled as AI-generated and are not presented as authoritative sources.

No institutional setup required

Scitero works immediately in any modern browser with no plugin installation, no IP whitelisting, no SAML/SSO configuration, and no IT department involvement. Students can use it from on-campus or off-campus equally.

Frequently asked questions

No. Calculator inputs, document uploads, and AI tool text are processed in the browser or via the AI API and are not stored on Scitero's servers. If a student creates an account, Scitero stores name, email, and role in Firebase β€” subject to Firebase's data processing terms. Students can use all tools without creating an account.
Given that no student data is collected for users who don't create an account, a formal DPA is generally not required for anonymous tool use. For institutions that require one regardless, please contact Scitero.research@gmail.com.
Scitero's AI tools are designed as assistants, not ghostwriters. The paraphraser, grammar checker, and abstract tool help students improve their own writing. Career tools (SOP, cover letter, scholarship essay) help students structure their own experiences into polished documents. Each AI tool page includes a disclosure that output is AI-generated and should be reviewed. Educators should communicate their institution's policies on AI use to students separately.
Yes, unconditionally and without prior permission. We'd appreciate a note at Scitero.research@gmail.com so we can let you know about major changes or new tools β€” but it's not required.
Calculators themselves implement standard formulas from the primary literature (Henderson-Hasselbalch, Beer-Lambert, ICH Q2(R1) LOD/LOQ). Each calculator page includes a "How to cite this tool" box with APA and MLA formats. We recommend students always cite the primary reference (e.g. ICH Q2(R1)) rather than Scitero for formula-dependent conclusions in published work.
Yes. The free-for-all-users model is a founding principle of the site, not a temporary promotion.
