Splitting PDFs and extracting pages for research use
PDF splitting is useful when you receive a combined document — a journal proof, a grant review package, or a merged supplementary file — and need to work with individual sections separately, or when a submission system requires each component as a separate file after you've been working with a combined version.
Common split use cases
Extracting individual figures from a combined figure file for separate submission. Separating reviewer comments from a combined editorial decision letter. Extracting specific chapters from a combined thesis PDF for sharing with collaborators. Creating individual page PDFs from a multi-page poster for printing.
Page range specification
This tool accepts page ranges in standard notation: "1-3" extracts pages 1 through 3, "1,3,5" extracts individual pages. You can create multiple output files from one input by specifying multiple ranges. Page numbers refer to the PDF's actual page numbers — if your document has Roman numeral front matter, page 1 in the PDF may not be page 1 as printed.
