Converting TIFF files to PDF for figure submission
TIFF (Tagged Image File Format) is the standard format for high-resolution scientific figures from microscopy, gel imaging, and radiological equipment. Many journal submission systems accept only PDF or common image formats, not TIFF directly. This tool converts single and multi-page TIFF files to PDF in your browser without uploading files to any server.
TIFF in scientific imaging
TIFF is preferred for scientific imaging because it is lossless โ no image data is discarded during compression, unlike JPEG. Fluorescence microscopy images in TIFF can contain multiple channels (wavelengths) as separate layers; this tool converts the visible composite image. For multi-page TIFFs (such as z-stacks or time series), each frame becomes a separate PDF page.
Resolution preservation
This tool preserves the resolution of the original TIFF. If your TIFF was captured at 300 dpi, the PDF will contain a 300 dpi image. For journal submission, check whether they require figures embedded in the manuscript PDF or submitted as separate files. Most journals require 300 dpi for halftone images and 1000 dpi for line art submitted as separate files.
