๐Ÿ“ˆ Yield & Recovery Calculator

Calculate percentage yield and percentage recovery for reactions, extractions and analytical method validation.

๐Ÿ“ˆ Yield Calculator
Calculate the percentage yield of a reaction or synthesis.
% Yield = (Actual Yield รท Theoretical Yield) ร— 100
Same unit as actual yield
%
๐Ÿ”„ % Recovery Calculator
Calculate percentage recovery for method validation and spiked sample analysis.
% Recovery = (Measured Amount รท Known Amount) ร— 100
Same unit as measured amount
%
๐Ÿงซ Solution Preparation (w/v)
Calculate how much solute to weigh to prepare a % w/v solution.
Mass (g) = (% w/v รท 100) ร— Volume (mL)
%
g
๐Ÿ“– Example (% Recovery): Known standard = 50 ยตg/mL, measured value after extraction = 47.5 ยตg/mL โ†’ % Recovery = (47.5 รท 50) ร— 100 = 95%. Report: "Mean extraction recovery was 95%, within the 70โ€“120% acceptance range."

Common guidance ranges

Often-cited recovery ranges: ~98โ€“102% for assay, ~70โ€“120% for trace analysis โ€” actual criteria are method- and concentration-dependent under ICH Q2(R1).

% Yield, % recovery, and % w/v in research

% Yield = (actual product / theoretical product) × 100, used in synthesis. % Recovery = (amount found / amount spiked) × 100, used in analytical method validation. ICH Q2(R1) acceptance: 98–102% for assay, 70–120% for trace methods. % w/v = (g solute / mL solution) × 100. A 5% w/v NaCl solution = 5 g NaCl dissolved to a final volume of 100 mL. Dissolve in ~80% of the final volume first, then make up to volume.
