Thesis and dissertation requirements
Most universities specify exact formatting for thesis page numbers: Roman numerals (i, ii, iii) for preliminary pages (abstract, acknowledgements, contents), Arabic numerals starting from 1 at the Introduction. The first page of each chapter is sometimes not numbered but counted.
