Converting plain text files to PDF

Plain text (.txt) files are commonly used for data output, instrument logs, sequence files, and simple reports. This tool converts text files or pasted text to a formatted PDF in your browser, suitable for sharing, archiving, or including in supplementary materials. The output uses a monospace font to preserve alignment in tabular text data.

When to use text-to-PDF

Converting instrument output logs for inclusion in a lab notebook or supplementary materials. Creating a PDF of a sequence file (FASTA, GenBank) for archiving. Sharing a script or code listing in a format that preserves formatting. Converting command-line output to a documentable format. For data-rich text files, consider whether a spreadsheet (Excel/CSV) would be more appropriate for sharing quantitative data.

Formatting notes

Tab characters are preserved but may not align perfectly at all tab stop positions. Long lines may be wrapped at the page margin. ANSI colour codes and control characters in terminal output are removed. For files with complex formatting or mixed content, a word processor may produce a cleaner result than a plain text converter.
